Within the Infrastructure and Networks Services Competence Area (INS CA) of the Generic Systems and Infrastructure (GSI) Division, the Communication Systems and Services Team Leader supports the planning, development, deployment and operations of network infrastructure, services and solutions responding to current and future needs.

 

ABOUT EUMETSAT

EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency. Its role is to establish and operate meteorological satellites to monitor the weather and climate from space – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation’s Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide.EUMETSAT also operates several Copernicus missions on behalf of the European Union and provide data services to the Copernicus marine and atmospheric services and their users.As an intergovernmental European Organisation, EUMETSAT has 30 Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.)

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of communications systems engineers, including setting objectives, managing performance, keeping key skills up-to-date, planning the activities and reporting to management;
  • Contribute to defining and maintaining the roadmap for the consolidated EUMETSAT communication network infrastructure, securing operational continuity while planning the required evolutions;
  • Design, implement and deliver scalable network solutions with the associated infrastructure, fulfilling the availability, resilience and security requirements of the current operational systems;
  • Translate specific business needs of internal customers into network requirements, in the context of the development of new ground segments for future satellite systems;
  • Coordinate the maintenance of EUMETSAT communication network systems and services, including 2nd/3rd level investigations and problem resolution;
  • Manage service contracts and interact with suppliers of network products and services.

Profile

  • A university degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. telecommunications, network systems, etc.) or equivalent
  • Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate an engineering team, with focus on performance and skills management;
  • Proven experience of communication network engineering in a high-availability, 24/7 operational environment;
  • Experience in designing, developing and deploying network solutions and services according to recognised standards;
  • In-depth knowledge of Cisco technology, services and solutions;
  • Experience establishing service-level agreements (SLAs) with internal customers, monitoring performance and ensuring service implementation and delivery;
  • Experience in managing industrial support contracts;
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical information into customer terminology
  • Effective team-working skills with a strong customer focus and experience working in a service driven environment is required.
