About this job

Your Mission:

DLR’s Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics conducts research in the field of efficient energy storage systems and next-generation energy conversion  technologies. The department of Computational Electrochemistry is developing new theories and simulation  tools for batteries and fuel cells. At the interface of fundamentals and application our interdisciplinary team investigates physico-chemical relationships with the aim of further improving electrochemical technologies for electromobility and stationary energy storage. We participate in the Cluster of Excellence  POLiS for Post-Lithium Systems and the Graduate School for Electrochemical Energy Storage of CELEST. We offer you access to excellent cutting-edge research, space for your own ideas and contact to national as well as international partners in academia and industry.

Responsibilities

A characteristic feature of new batteries and fuel cells are transport and reaction processes in porous materials in which several phases are involved. These complex processes require the development of new models and innovative numerical solution strategies. For the development of advanced simulation tools for PEM fuel cells and post-lithium batteries based  on the Lattice-Boltzmann-Method, we are looking for PhD students with a background in physics and mathematics. Your  task is the development, implementation and application of physico-chemical models for reactive transport in porous electrodes. The work requires good  programming skills and experience in scientific computing. Basic knowledge in electrochemistry is helpful but not mandatory.

Profile

Your qualifications:

  • excellent master degree in physics, mathematics, or similar disciplines.
  • programming experience in C/C++ or Matlab.
  • proficient English language skills.
  • passion for innovative research.

Your benefits:

Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives. Our human resources policy places great value on a healthy family and work-life-balance as well as equal opportunities for persons of all genders (m/f/non-binary). Individuals with disabilities will be given preferential consideration in the event their qualifications are equivalent to those of other candidates.
