About this job

The Department for Resilience of Maritime Systems develops methods to assess the security and protection status of maritime infrastructures, such as offshore facilities, ports or ships. Based on this, new concepts for threat analysis and hazard prevention are developed to cope with the increasing complexity of maritime infrastructures, which consist of a multitude of technological and socio-technical subsystems.

Responsibilities

With your work you pursue with us the common goal of continuously improving the analysis and evaluation as well as the increase of the security and protection status of current and future maritime infrastructures. In an interdisciplinary work team you will explore how the safety and protection goals to be achieved can be specified and validated. Furthermore, you will develop suitable approaches for static and operational hazard prevention in the infrastructure. You will publish the results of your work at renowned conferences as well as in recognized specialist journals, thus representing the Institute at national and international level. Depending on your qualifications, you will supervise master’s and doctoral theses. The opportunity to do a doctorate is given within the framework of the temporary employment.

The position includes the following principal activities:

  • research and development of methods for security and threat analysis of infrastructures
  • research and development of methods for security in infrastructures
  • cooperation in project acquisitions in the field of security of maritime infrastructures
  • presentation and publication of research results

Profile

  • Master’s degree in an engineering field (e.g. Security engineering, security management, systems engineering)
  • knowledge in the field of security and threat analysis and risk prevention
  • knowledge of the implementation of third-party funded projects desirable
  • knowledge in dealing with industrial partners, if possible also in joint projects, desirable
  • very good verbal and written skills in English
  • strong willingness to communicate and cooperate as well as the ability to work in a team
