About this job

At the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics of the DLR, namely within the Adaptive Biointerfaces Group, we are interested in detecting human motion intention from diverse biosignals from the body.

Our group works mainly in the field of prosthetics in order to help transradial amputees regain a maximum of their abilities: we use biosignals to identify different muscle patterns in the forearm and control a dexterous prosthetic hand. In addition to that, we also apply our knowledge to teleoperation of robots for future space exploration or for dangerous environments where precise bimanipulation can be needed. For this purpose, we have built a wireless body tracking device, with which you will be working.

Your task will be, by taking as an example the existing system, to build a miniaturized version of it.

Responsibilities

Work Breakdown:

  • getting familiar with the existing system and hardware
  • imagining different attachment systems and housings
  • testing and choice of the microcontroller
  • PCB design (and testing if time allows)
  • housing design

Profile

  • very good skills in PCB design
  • good skills in microcontroller programming
  • good skills in CAD (ideally Creo)
  • ideally, skills in Bluetooth and interface programming

Your benefits:

Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives. Our human resources policy places great value on a healthy family and work-life-balance as well as equal opportunities for persons of all genders (m/f/non-binary). Individuals with disabilities will be given preferential consideration in the event their qualifications are equivalent to those of other candidates.
